The Clarsach Society London Branch Newsletter
|
We have decided to offer, annually, a branch scholarship award to encourage promising players at all levels and especially those with limited resources. The first award will be made in summer 2008. The award is for use in one of the following categories: A. Maintenance—covering strings, music, or repairs B. Towards the cost of an instrument C. Tuition—including attendance at a course, masterclass, or private lessons Eligibility and Rules: 1. An applicant must be a current member of the London & South-East branch of the Clarsach Society and have been a member for at least the previous year, and have attended a branch event in the previous year. Unsuccessful applicants may re-apply in future years. A successful applicant may not re-apply. 2. There is no restriction with regard to age or playing standard. 3. Application forms can be requested from the Branch Secretary. The closing date for applications will be the date of the summer weekend course, and the invited tutor(s) at that course will be asked to be the moderator(s) for the award. If the summer weekend course does not run in any year, and/or there is no external tutor, the branch committee will decide the closing date and/or will choose an independent moderator. 4. The value of the award will be decided in January each year by the branch committee. 5. Where the award is to be made towards tuition, the teacher must also be a member of the Clarsach Society, or approved by the Clarsach Society London & South-East Branch committee. 6. The successful applicant will be asked to either perform at a branch event, or write an account for the newsletter relating to their playing or about how the award was used. 7. The branch committee reserves the right to review and amend the eligibility and rules for the scholarship award at the beginning of each membership year. Any changes to the eligibility and rules will be published in the newsletter.
