Clarsach Society Music Folios

The Clarsach Society publishes over 30 music folios. The level of difficulty ranges from beginner to advanced.

A catalogue is published on the internet at www.harp.ist.co.uk/music-cat/, where you can see lists of all the pieces available in each folio with an indication of the grade of difficulty, an alphabetical list of all the tunes, and some samples.

The following may give you some idea of what is available -

Folio 1, Simple Airs for Beginners, arranged by Jean Campbell—including An Eriskay Love Lilt, David of the White Rock, The Londonderry Air

Folio 9, Sangs O’ Court and Luve, by various arrangers, including In a Garden so Green, Joy to the Person of my Love, As I was Walking one May Morning.

Other books include Gaelic Songs, Scots Ballads, Songs of the Hebrides, Burns Songs, Northumbrian tunes, solos, ensemble pieces (for 2/3 clarsachs and voice), and arrangements of Scottish Dance Music of varying difficulty.

There is also a Millennium Folio, published in 2000, with pieces contributed by Janet Bennett, Alison Kinnaird, Corrina Hewat, Isobel Mieras, Anne Macdearmid, Bill Taylor, and others.

Music can be ordered from the Clarsach Society Administrator, Alistair Cockburn (tel. 0131 669 8972), who can also supply a printed catalogue of the folios.

The cost of a folio varies depending on whether it is manuscript or typeset. There is a reduction for Clarsach Society members.
