Harp Making Workshop 2008

Friday 11th July - Sunday 13th July

Alpheton, Suffolk

Workshop details:

The purpose of this workshop is to make a small (19 string) lap harp from a kit. This is a very basic small harp, without levers, but is still a very playable musical instrument. The workshop will take place over three sessions, because of allowing time for glue to dry –

Friday July 11th 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm

Saturday July 12th 10.30 am – 12.30 pm

Sunday July 13th 10.30 am – 12.30 pm

The charge for the workshop is - Members – £80 / Non-members - £100

This charge is per harp kit – if more than one person wants to make one harp between them, there is no extra charge. You will need to bring a small bottle/jar of wood glue – the kit and clamps will be provided.

Tutor:

Gillian Weiss, an Australian harpmaker, made her first harp in 1994. This led her into a serious study of the theory and practice of harpmaking. Initially she sold harps only in South Australia , but today she sends harps all around the country and overseas, of various sizes, ranging from lap harps to large (40 string) lever harps. For more details, see her website.

Location:

The venue is the village hall at Alpheton, on Old Bury Road . Alpheton is on the A134, south of Bury St Edmunds. Parking is available at the village hall. See the Alpheton website for more information.
